VCS employment figures fall during second quarter

The voluntary sector’s paid workforce experienced a slight fall in the second quarter of this year, with the latest analysis of the Labour Force Survey showing that the number of paid employees in the sector decreased by approximately 4,000 over March to June 2012, representing a decrease of just 0.6% on the previous quarter and takes the number of paid employees to a total of 775,000 during the mid-point of 2012.

Donations to charities fall by 20 percent

Donations to charity fell by 20% in real terms during 2011/12, with the public gave £1.7billion less to charity than the previous year, according to the longest-running annual study of giving across the United Kingdom.

Campaign for Voluntary Sector Archives

A campaign for Voluntary Sector Archives has been launched. The campaign, which has grown out of concern for the neglect of sector records, will include a website at with guidance documents to help VCS organisations manage their archives and records and/or make informed decisions about depositing records in an appropriate repository.

 

National minimum wage increased from 1 October

On Monday 1 October 2012 the National Minimum Wage rose in accordance with the recommendations set out by the Low Pay Commission in its 2012 report.

Review announced of voluntary sector learning and skills

Dame Mary Marsh has been appointed by the Minister for Civil Society, Nick Hurd, to lead a review into leadership and skills in the voluntary sector.
