PHE East Midlands Migrant Health Day - Tuesday 6 September 2016. Nottingham - invitation to VCSE

Public Health England (PHE) East Midlands would like to invite VCSE organisations to their East Midlands Migrant Health Day on Tuesday 6 September 2016 in Nottingham.

www.phe-events.org.uk/migranthealth2016

Between 2001 and 2011 the East Midlands saw an increase in the non-UK born population of 4%. In most areas across the East Midlands, there is an already established migrant community, with half having lived in the country for more than 10 years. However, there are some areas, such as Nottingham and Leicester, where nearly 10% of the population are non-UK born migrants, who have been living here for less than 2 years.

Understanding the characteristics of migrant populations is essential to planning healthcare and public health services. Across the East Midlands there are good models of how local organisations are tailoring their services to meet the needs of their migrant populations.

The theme for the day is to raise awareness and identify the health and social needs of migrants, asylum seekers and refuges entering and living in the East Midlands and defining the next steps in planning and addressing better access to health and social care.

The morning will include presentations on the health of migrants, the launch of the East Midlands Migrant Health Profiles and an insight into the challenges faced from a refugee’s perspective. The afternoon will have a greater focus on examples of good practice within the East Midlands and a session on next steps and local action planning

Registration and coffee will be from 09:30 to 09:55 and the event will run from 10:00 to 15:30. The event will take place at Hilton Nottingham, Milton Street, Nottingham NG1 3PZ. To see full details about the programme and to book your place, please visit the event website.
