Youth work and schools survey

CYPNow has published the results of a survey to inform a National Youth Agency (NYA) commission on how schools can work more closely with youth work.

More than 90 percent of the 550 people working in schools, local government and voluntary services back the role of youth work in schools.

Nearly two thirds of respondents currently work in a school that partners with youth workers, while of those who did not, 80 percent said this was because they lack understanding about youth work. A further 86 percent said financial constraints are a barrier.

NYA conducted the survey to inform its commission, which is chaired by former children’s minister Rim Loughton and was launched in March, on how schools can work more closely with youth work organisations to improve young people’s social and personal development.
