New group aims to inspire sector impact

Twelve organisations, including NCVO and Acevo, have come together to form the 'inspiring impact' group, which plans to provide collective leadership on impact measurement in the charity sector over the next decade. The group aims to make the next ten years a decade of high impact, and has developed a 12-month plan to set off five goals, which will define the group. The five goals are:

  • Leadership and culture
  • Shared measurement
  • Data
  • Tools and systems
  • Funders, commissioners and investors and impact measurement support.

As part of its launch, the group has released a new report entitled Inspiring Impact, which looks at the current state of impact measurement and the group's goals. Written by New Philanthropy Capital, the report states that it is harmful if organisations see impact measurement simply as a way to secure funding, as it could fail to become an embedded core activity. The report also states that not enough funders, commissioners or investors are focused on impact measurement. The 12 organisations who form the äóÖinspiring impact' group are:

  • The Association of Charitable Foundations
  • Acevo
  • Big Lottery Fund
  • Big Society Capital
  • Charities Evaluation Services
  • Dartington Social Research Unit
  • NCVO
  • New Philanthropy Capital
  • The Office for Civil Society
  • SROI Network
  • Substance
  • The Third Sector Research Centre
