Doorstep Sports Club programme

A £3.38miliion programme that will see 307 youth sports clubs established across England has been launched by StreetGames.

The move will see the youth sports charity expand its Doorstep Sport Clubs programme, which offers 14-to 25-year-olds free or low-cost access to clubs offering a wide range of traditional and alternative sports.

StreetGames aims to work with local authorities, youth groups, charities and sports clubs to set up 307 clubs in the most deprived areas of the country by summer 2014.

The funding is provided by Sport England as part of its London 2012 legacy work, which is funded by money from the National Lottery.

The Doorstep Sport Clubs have already been trialed in 40 locations, including Bristol and Hull, and offer a mix of standard sports such as football and boxing and adapted versions of games such as Cardio Tennis and Rush Hockey.
