Aspirational Nation

The National Careers Council, which was set up by Government to provide it with independent, expert advice, has published Aspirational Nation: Creating a culture change in careers provision.

The report signals the need for an urgent culture change to address the mismatch between high unemployment and employers who are struggling to recruit. It found that fewer than one percent of young people have used a phone line set up to offer them careers advice and calls for face-to-face advice to be available for all pupils from the age of 12, rather than being provided via a phone line or website.

The report also calls for a modernised and expanded National Careers Service, with an employer-led Advisory Board and with an extended remit to support schools, colleges and young people.
