Generation Change launched

Generation Change, a coalition of 13 specialist youth social action organisations has been launched.

The coalition aims to tackle social problems ranging from educational disadvantage, bullying and community cohesion to sustainability, homelessness, and age-related isolation. Its members support over 100,000 young people each year to address these social issues, in over 1,000 communities and schools across the UK.

In order to drive up the number of young people actively involved in high quality social action, helping them to increase their skills and equipping them to take on social issues, the coalition will focus on:

  • Improving the quality of youth social action and helping organisations to demonstrate the value of their programmes
  • Enhancing understanding of youth social action, including levels of activity, gaps and opportunities for further impact, and share this knowledge with funders, policy makers and education providers.
  • Providing a platform for collaboration between youth social action and other, related organisations and other organisations
  • Drawing attention to the youth social action agenda in the media and with policy makers
  • Acting as a hub for all organisations who share its vision, enhancing understanding of what works in driving effective social action and facilitating new ways of working together to make it happen.

Through collaboration, the coalition will aim to will enable and inspire successive generations of responsible, productive and socially engaged young people, empowering them to change the world around them and to take on some of this country’s toughest social issues.
