Disclosure and Barring Service

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) has announced that their new Update Service will launch on 17 June.

The new service is designed to deliver portability of DBS, which used to be known as CRB checks. Volunteers can subscribe to the Update Service for free, with an annual fee of £13 applies for other members of the workforce.

On the same date the DBS will make two other changes, which are:

  • Changing the "position applied for" field so that users now need to say which workforce the post is part of, e.g. child; adult; child and adult or other.
  • The DBS will only issue one certificate to the applicant, which means that organisations will no longer be automatically sent a copy of the disclosure for individuals undertaking roles for them.

In addition From 29 May, the DBS will be removing certain specified old and minor offences from criminal record certificates issued from this date, following changes to the legislation on that day to enable them to do this.
