The experiences of young carers in England

The Children's Society has published Hidden from View: The experiences of young carers in England, a study of 15,000 young carers examining the long-term impact of caring responsibilities.

The report found that 1 in 12 young carers were caring for more than 15 hours per week and around 1 in 20 missed school because of their caring responsibilities, with young carers having significantly lower educational attainment at GCSE level.

In addition, the Office for National Statistics has published figures which show 244,000 of the people registered as carers are under 19, and about 23,000 are under nine years old.
