Youth group engagement with businesses

The National Youth Agency has published a report on the results of a pilot project testing where the business community could be engaged, through an intermediary, in delivering support to voluntary youth groups.

The pilot took place in Manchester and the report consists of both findings and best practice for the youth sector in how to engage and leverage resources from the business community.

Key findings from the report include:

  • Youth services should collaborate to improve their ability to attract support from businesses
  • Youth organisations need to “be realistic” about what businesses can offer them and invest in building relationships and their offer to private sector companies
  • Currently links between youth groups and businesses are undeveloped and local authorities should play a lead role in reaching out a bridging the gap between the two groups
