New vocational courses

The Department for Education has announced that a series of high quality vocational qualifications are being developed for use by 14-16 year olds, in areas including construction and engineering.

A new 14-19 Advisory Committee has been established to create the courses and will involve employers, awarding organisations and professional bodies.

The department has also announced a consultation on proposals to remove some level 3 vocational courses from counting in league tables, resulting in only large qualifications which meet a high quality bar being counted. The consultation also proposes separately reporting qualifications which lead into skilled occupancy from education and academic achievement.
