Community Development Values & Group Work – 9 April to 18 June

Taking place on Tuesday 9, 16 and 30 April, 14 and 21 May and 4 and 18 June at The Circle, 33 Rockingham Lane, Sheffield S1 4FW, This course is aimed at people who have a reasonably broad based experience of working with groups within community settings, either as a unpaid or paid worker, or as a volunteer.

This course will provide a combination of activity based training, guided learning and tutorial support. Participants will need to spend at least 20 hours covering the course units and additional time to study and reflect on how to link the learning to your work in communities.

The course will cover two units from the national community development awards, Community Development Values and Process and Community Group Dynamics, which include the following topics:

  • Community development values and process
  • The role of reflection and learning in community development
  • How power and powerlessness affect people in communities
  • Community group dynamics, roles and relationships in community groups
  • Support and resources for community groups
  • Participatory tools for group work.

This course is free to VCS participants through lottery funding. Workers employed by public sector organisations are offered subsidised places at £50 per person. To book onto the course click here.
