StreetGames and the Centre for Economics and Business Research have published The Inactivity Time Bomb, a report quantifying the economic and social costs associated with physical inactivity specifically among young people in the UK.

Key findings include that:

  • Physical inactivity among 11 to 25 year olds will cost the UK economy £53.3 billion over their lifetimes;
  • Each physically inactive young person costs the UK economy £12,000 over their lifetime;
  • Lowest income households are most likely to have least active children; and
  • Poorest households spend less than £2 a week on sport.

The National Children’s Bureau has published Opening the door to better healthcare: A snapshot of innovations in primary and first access care for children and young people.

The report discusses some of the innovations being taken forward by GPs and others to improve children's access to and experience of primary care. It also includes examples of broader multi-professional collaboration and innovation to ensure that more children and young people with minor ailments are treated in the right place at the right time.
