Young people, education and employment

Data from the Department for Education for key stage 4 and key stage 5 pupils shows the percentage of young people progressing to specified educational or employment destinations in the academic year 2011 to 2012. The data, available at local authority level, national level, institution level and parliamentary constituency level, shows that:

  • One in 20 students from private school and one in 100 from state school went on to study at Oxford or Cambridge University in 2011;
  • 74 percent of state school A-level students went on to study at university, got a job, or went into further vocational training, up from 69 percent between 2010 and 2011; and
  • 53 percent of state school students went on to higher education between 2011 and 2012, up from 48% for 2010 and 2011.
