Young people and politics
British Future has published research conducted with YouGov, entitled Voice of a Generation: What do 2015’s first-time voters think?
The report found that:
- Young people have little faith in a political elite, which they feel pays more attention to big business (59 percent), pensioners (17 percent), homeowners (11 percent) and even celebrities (10 percent) than to young people;
- Young people share many of the political concerns of the rest of the population, including the economy and jobs, housing and education; and
- 41 percent of eligible first-time voters say they will definitely vote in the general election, compared to three-quarters of those aged over 60.
