Developing management skills for the third sector

Anglia Ruskin University has developed a two-year, part-time certificate of higher education in developing management skills for the third sector following an in-depth consultation with the sector.

On offer online or with workshops in Cambridge, Chelmsford or in Manchester, the course is designed to develop the broad range of skills and understanding needed to manage staff, stakeholders and projects, and to help organisations achieve their strategic objectives.

The certificate is designed for people working within the third sector, including paid employees, trustees and board members, as well as public sector staff in services moving towards a mutual or social enterprise model.

The aim of this course is to improve the skills and knowledge of third sector leaders in these areas of business management:

  • Leadership and management;
  • Social enterprise;
  • Marketing;
  • Financial management;
  • Human resource management;
  • Social impact measurement;
  • To develop students' intellectual, academic and interpersonal skills, enabling them to perform more effectively in the workplace environment;
  • To evidence professional development through an accredited university-level qualification; and
  • To meet the needs of third sector employers seeking to improve the skills of their managers.
