Engaging young people in research – 6 November

This workshop, taking place on Wednesday 6 November from 10am to 4pm at the National Children’s Bureau in London, is for researchers in the voluntary and public sectors who want to explore effective ways of involving children and young people in research.

The workshop will provide examples of how children and young people have added value to a range of studies, from large-scale social surveys to small qualitative studies focusing on specific issues, such as involving disabled young people in the development of local services.

The programme will cover:

  • What children and young people think about taking part in research, and effective strategies for involving them;
  • Ethical issues in involving children and young people in research, based on a review of the growing body of evidence on this topic;
  • How you can effectively and meaningfully involve young people in shaping research questions, informing methodology, and contributing to the analysis, interpretation and dissemination of findings; and
  • How you can ensure that your research findings reach those who can make a difference to children’s and young people’s lives.
