Building Resilience with Young People and Communities

The Resilience Consortium has published Building Resilience with Young People and Communities, a report based on research with 700 young people in response to the 2011 riots.

Key findings from the report include:

  • Young people and practitioners hold differing perceptions about youth services;
  • There is a lack of clarity of purpose for many of young people;
  • Acquisition is a basis for identity for some young people; and
  • The contribution of young people is vital and there is real value in engaging

The report found that the three areas that can impact on the success of programmes with young people are:

  • What young people need and where they go;
  • Young people's hyper-local location and experience of not feeling part of their communities; and
  • The importance of responsiveness.
