Police and Crime Commissioners

NCVYS has published the first examples of how Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) are engaging with young people.

Each example will detail the model of youth engagement used, how it works, how much it costs and whether it is an approach that other PCCs can adapt or replicate in their own areas. The first published examples are from Kent, where the PCC has established a Youth Commissioner post, and Avon & Somerset, where the voluntary sector has led on engaging BME young people.

NCVYS is also developing a new award for PCCs in 2013 to recognise good practice in engagement with young people.

This year, the award is planned as part of our well-established Young Partners Awards, which have been promoting good partnership between young people and adults for the last three years.

The award wants to recognise and encourage meaningful engagement with young people, especially those who are marginalised, whose views are of great use to PCCs' policies and whose relationships with police have often been poor.
