Supported internship programme

The Department for Education is currently trialling a supported internship programme for young people with special educational needs.

The supported internships trial is running at 15 colleges around England for young people between the ages of 16 and 24 who have complex learning difficulties or disabilities.

The programme will be available to all post-16 providers who choose to offer it from September 2013 and is part of the special education needs reforms as outlined in Support and Aspiration: A new approach to special educational needs and disability: Progress and Next Steps.
