Reengaging young people locally

The Local Government Association has published Hidden Talents II: Re-engaging young people, the local offer.

The report states that a new local approach to tackling long-term youth unemployment could see the number of young people out of work cut by 20 per cent in three years, saving £1.25 billion each year.

It also states that personalised local approaches were most effective in reducing the number young people out of work and training, but such schemes were undermined by national funding, performance, and procurement systems driven by central Government.

In addition it states that the existing system was overly complicated, with 33 different national schemes that spanned 13 different age boundaries.
