Youth unemployment

The Office for National Statistics has published the latest youth unemployment figures from September 2012 to November 2012. Key figures include:

  • There were 3.7million 16-24 year olds in employment (837,000 employed and in full time education (FTE), 2.9m employed and not in FTE). This is a 12,000 increase from June to August 2012
  • There were 2.58million economically inactive 16-24 year olds, including those in FTE
  • There were 633,000 unemployed 16-24 years olds excluding those in FTE. This is down 26,000 from June –August 2012
  • The unemployment rate for 16 to 24 year olds ( including those in FTE) was 20.5% for September to November 2012, unchanged from June to August 2012.
