Youth Contract

The Department for Education has announced that it has extended the eligibility criteria for the Youth Contract, making an extra 15,500 young people eligible.

It has extended it to a wider range of 16- and 17-year-olds who are NEET, including young people who are or were in care; young people who have one GCSE at A*-C; and young offenders released from custody.

The Department for Education saved £20 million during the competitive procurement process which allowed this extension to take place. For further information visit www.education.gov.uk/inthenews/inthenews/a00220110/youth-contract-extended-to-more-young-people-who-are-neet.

Minister for Employment Mark Hoban has launched the new 'Youth Contract: Works for me' advertising drive on local radio stations. The campaign raises awareness of the £1billion Youth Contract, the Government's package of support offering nearly half a million opportunities to help 18-24 year-olds into work. For further information visit www.dwp.gov.uk/newsroom/press-releases/2013/jan-2013/dwp004-13.shtml.
