Big potential programme update

The Big Lottery Fund has doubled the amount of funding available through its Big Potential programme to help charities win contracts and investment.

Defra investment in ACRE Network

The Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs has confirmed that it will maintain its £2.3million investment in the ACRE Network for 2015/16.

Guide to Bitcoin donations

Two Bitcoin organisations have launched a website to promote the use of the digital currency to charities and other non-profit organisations.


Funding opportunities

The Health Innovation, Excellence and Strategic Development Fund from the Department of Health is now open. Voluntary sector organisations are invited to submit proposals that test and develop innovative approaches to health and care; actively share and disseminate excellent practice; and improve collaboration and partnerships within the voluntary sector to provide better outcomes, greater efficiencies and sustainability. The closing dates for registering with the online process is noon on Friday 13 March. The Government has made £5 million available to support victims of child and adult sexual abuse across the England and Wales. The Child Abuse Inquiry Support Fund, worth £2 million, helps organisations experiencing increased demand as a direct result of the announcement of the Child Abuse Inquiry on 7 July. The Child and Adult Victims of Sexual Abuse Support Fund, worth £2.85 million, helps organisations in England and Wales meet increased demand for providing support to victims of sexual abuse. The Polden-Puckham Charitable Foundation is a grant giving trust with Quaker family roots in the United Kingdom. They give grants for peace and sustainable security: the development of ways of resolving violent conflicts peacefully, and of addressing their underlying causes; and environmental sustainability: work that addresses the pressures and conditions that risk global environmental breakdown. Grants are for £5,000 to £15,000 per year for up to three years. The next deadline is Sunday 15 February. For further information visit www.polden-puckham.org.uk.

The Sylvia Waddilove Foundation provides grants for projects relating to education relating to organic farming, animal husbandry, veterinary science, animal welfare and animal surgery; visual and performing arts; medical research; relief of disability and severe illness; preservation of buildings of architectural or historical significance; accommodation of those in need; and skills based training of young people. The Stanley Smith Horticultural Trust gives grants to further the advancement of horticulture in the UK and abroad. Grants are available for projects in support of horticultural research, the creation, preservation and maintenance of public gardens, publication of books on horticulture, study visits, plant collecting expeditions and training schemes for gardeners. They give small grants up to £1,000, and larger ones up to £10,000 though most are below £4,000. The next deadline is Sunday 15 February. Around 1,200 communities across the country have already embarked upon neighbourhood planning. To help mobilise even more communities the Department for Communities and Local Government has made Community Planning Workshop grants of up to £2,000 available to enable groups to organise workshops on the subject. Legacy fundraising

Legacy fundraising refers to the art of encouraging people to leave gifts to your organisation in the event of their death. More organisations are starting to think seriously about this as a means to raise funds.

Online funding bids - Awards for All

An interactive training session on how to write a strong funding application, followed by a session filling in your Awards for All application online, with advice from Lincolnshire CVS’s experienced community development team.
