EMVY E-bulletin

View from the Chair

The run up to the General Election on 7th May is going to see us bombarded by a plethora of political propaganda, and although there may be sadly be some truth is the 1992 Clinton campaign slogan "The economy, stupid" we should take every opportunity to ensure that our prospective political masters understand the challenges that young people face today, as well as the strains and pressures facing those organisations (be they local authority or voluntary) that try to ensure the best possible outcomes for the youth of the East Midlands. We should also try to ensure that East Midlands’ youth not only engage in the politic process but also that their voices are heard.

I personally have my reservations about the Government’s National Citizen Service (NCS) programme, I also have some thoughts about Starbucks’ tax position, however I would recommend that any of you that are engaging with young people who have gone through the NCS programme have a look at the Starbucks Youth Action programme detailed in the first article of this month’s EMVY Newsletter – but you will need to act fast.

Simon Worsley, Chair of EMVY, Part of One East Midlands
