New D2N2 Active Engagement Officer appointed

The D2N2 LEP is pleased to welcome a familiar face, Rachel Quinn, into the role of Active Engagement Officer for the D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership.  The role, jointly managed by One East Midlands, will promote and support the active engagement of the voluntary, community sector and social enterprise organisations in the work of D2N2.

Rachel’s specific role will include:

- the creation of communication channels into and out of the VCS;

- supporting sector representatives with D2N2;

- supporting the work of the Social Inclusion and Equalities Advisory Group;

- development of D2N2 programmes and calls with strong community or inclusion focus (e.g. the Community Programme) and;

- encouraging groups to bid for, run and manage effectively D2N2 programmes – including European funded programmes.

To enable this to happen, Rachel will be actively seeking routes to communicate with the VCS more effectively and welcomes input from organisations about how this can best happen.

The role is partly funded by European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) Technical Assistance and partly by D2N2.  It is therefore envisaged that support and engagement across all LEP activities will be made enabled.

Rachel is contactable via email Rachel.quinn@d2n2lep.org or mobile: 07551 124225.

Brexit

The June referendum resulting in a vote to leave the European Union has raised queries within D2N2, the VCS and all local stakeholders.  At this stage D2N2 is supporting locally businesses where it can as further information becomes available.  For now it is business as usual with the programmes and activities already available.

In relation to EU funding programmes, a letter from David Gaulke (Chief Secretary to the Treasury) to the Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union states that all multi-year projects contracted before the 2016 Autumn Statement will be assured.  Decisions regarding projects and programmes likely to be contracted after the Autumn Statement are still to be taken and are subject to the outcome of discussions between the Treasury, LEPs and other stakeholders.

The letter can be found in full on the gov.uk website at:

The Economic and Social Impact of Migration

D2N2’s Equalities Steering Group has commissioned research from S4W Ltd and Richmond Baxter Ltd to better understand the economic and social impacts of emerging migrant communities across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

The research will inform the LEP’s economic strategy, programmes and partnership work.

The Steering Group are keen to hear from voluntary, community, partnership and other support-giving organisations that work with migrant communities who may be able to inform this work.  Please complete this short survey of your experiences in this field and email to the address at the bottom of the form or post to the D2N2 Active Engagement Officer at D2N2 offices (address on the bottom of the form).

VCS Case Study: The Ear Foundation

Local support charity for the deaf community, The Ear Foundation, is now offering deaf awareness training to businesses. It follows the charity’s recent expansion, using investment from the D2N2 LEP’s (now closed) Unlocking Investment for Growth programme; funded by the UK’s Regional Growth Fund and the European Regional Development Fund.  This investment has enabled the organisation to increase its staffing capacity and launch a range of new services, including training for businesses on how to communicate more confidently with people experiencing hearing loss.  For more information read the full article on the D2N2 news feed:
