Keeping our children safe: Raising awareness in BME Communities

The Safe Network, which provides information and resources to keep children safe, has launched an updated version of Keeping our children safe: Raising awareness in black and minority ethnic communities.

This downloadable resource allows trainers and group leaders to plan activities focusing on children's safeguarding in different communities. It also provides an opportunity for participants to share and learn about positive and harmful childcare practices and ways in which children can be kept safe.

The free online resource is suitable for use with parents, carers, community groups, staff and volunteers working with or in BME communities. It can be downloaded as a whole or module by module.

  • Module one - features a range of activities that help participants to recall childhood experiences and the way these have affected their opinions on how children are cared for now.
  • Module two - features a range of activities designed to raise awareness about core aspects of child abuse in a cultural and legal context.
  • Module three - features a range of activities that help participants to identify and strengthen practices in the family and community that protect children from harm, and offers guidance on where they can find support.
