Tackling Domestic Violence and Abuse in Faith Communities

Taking place on Thursday 20 November in Coventry, Tackling Domestic Violence and Abuse in Faith Communities is aimed at multi-faith leaders, multi-faith communities, statutory service workers, academics, survivors, politicians, and professionals who work with victims and perpetrators.

Representing multi-faith communities, professionals, third sector organisations, academics and politicians, speakers at the conference will provide multi-dimensional perspectives on the occurrence of domestic violence and abuse in faith communities. There will be in depth insight on the needs of adult and child victims in faith communities and an emphasis on how to facilitate work with perpetrators of domestic violence and abuse.

Using in depth research and experiences shared by survivors, conference topics will examine aspects of domestic violence and abuse in faith communities, including:

  • Spiritual Abuse;
  • The Impact of domestic violence and abuse on children and adolescents;
  • Forced marriage;
  • The complex dynamics of domestic violence and abuse in faith communities;
  • The behavioural patterns of perpetrators;
  • Legal perspectives;
  • Female Genital Mutilation; and
  • The complete restoration of adult and child victims.

On the evening of the conference the Faith Leaders Ceremony will take place. The ceremony is a national event exclusive to leaders and senior representatives from multi-faith communities.

The ceremony aims to inspire national multi-faith leaders to start taking the lead in eradicating domestic violence and abuse, beginning in faith communities. Activities during the evening will include a declared commitment to a zero tolerance of any form of domestic violence and abuse in faith communities, especially Female Genital Mutilation, and forced marriage.
