An opportunity for people with experience of personal health budgets to work with NHS England

NHS England is inviting applications from people with experience of personal health budgets (PHB) or integrated personal commissioning (IPC) personal budgets to join a national coproduction group.

The group works alongside NHS England to help ensure that IPC and PHBs work well for patients. Applicants need to have experience of having a budget, or be a family carer  for someone who does. Please email england.integratedpersonalcommissioning@nhs.net to request an application form. The closing date for applications is 17 March 2017. More information about this opportunity is available on the Peoplehub website.

What is Integrated Personal Commissioning? (IPC)

Integrated Personal Commissioning is a new approach to the way the NHS and Local Authorities work with people with complex needs in their communities. In the future, it will be the main model of care for around 5% of the population with the highest health and care needs including: people with multiple long term conditions, people with severe and enduring mental health problems, and children and adults with complex learning disabilities and autism.

Through IPC, individuals, their carers and families can take an active role in their health and wellbeing, with greater choice and control over the care they receive. Alongside this, IPC also supports people to develop their knowledge, skills and confidence to self-manage their care, through stronger partnerships with the voluntary and community sector (VCSE), community capacity building and peer support.

The Purpose of Integrated Personal Commissioning is to achieve these outcomes:

  • Better quality of life and enhanced health and well-being
  • Fewer crises that lead to unplanned hospital and institution care
  • Enhanced experience of care through better coordination and personalisation of health, social care and other services

These are the places implementing IPC:

Barnsley; Cheshire West & Chester; Gloucestershire; Hampshire: My Life, My Way; Lincolnshire; Luton; Northern, Eastern and Western (NEW) Devon; Portsmouth; Somerset; South Devon and Torbay; South West consortium; Stockton-On-Tees: My Voice, My Choice; Tower Hamlets; Birmingham and Solihull; Hertfordshire; Islington; Nottingham City; Nottinghamshire and Sheffield.
