Young people and substance misuse

Public Health England has published a report containing the latest statistics on specialist substance misuse treatment for young people in England during 2013 and 2014.

Key figures include that:

  • There were 19,126 young people in specialist substance misuse services in 2013 to 2014;
  • 79 percent of young people left services having successfully completed their treatment;
  • 71 percent of young people presented to specialist services with cannabis as their primary substance; and
  • Alcohol was the primary problem substance with 3,776 cases.
