European Structural and Investment Funds 2014-20: Introduction to the local economy & How to apply for ERDF funding

Date:
Tuesday, 8 July, 2014 - 09:30 to 16:00
Venue:
BCVS@ThePriory, The Old Abbey School, Priorswell Road, Worksop S80 2BU

Bassetlaw CVS, in partnership with One East Midlands ERDF Reach & Impact project, is running this free event, including lunch, to help the VCS prepare for the new programme by providing delegates with an introduction and understanding the local economy and how to apply for ERDF funding.

Background

From January 2014 the new seven year cycle of European Funding programmes began. Each Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has received a notional allocation and each has produced a strategy document which will guide the way the investment is spent. Within Bassetlaw we fall within the area for the D2N2 and the Sheffield City Region (SCR) LEPs and their notional allocations are €249.7million and €203.4million respectively.

The European programme has 10 thematic objectives, and the LEPs will be looking for projects to deliver those objectives. All the activity will contribute to the greater economic prosperity of the area, and this ranges through from Innovation and SME competitiveness, to Social Inclusion, Skills and Employment.

The programme offers a real opportunity for VCS organisations to create economic inclusion in local communities. Through accessing the funding the VCS can have a proactive role in ensuring economic development, growth and sustainability can take place in local communities.

Within Bassetlaw we want to ensure that the VCS has the skills and knowledge to access the funding. Due to the amounts available, and the desire of the LEPs to support large scale, cross boundary projects there will be a need to work collaboratively to access the funding.

Content

  • Introduction to understanding your local economy – This part of the event will focus on helping you to identify, develop and evidence the demand for a project that meets the economic needs of your community.
  • Understanding your local economy and measuring your economic contribution – This part will provide a step-by-step introduction to defining how you measure the social and economic impact of your organisation.
  • How to apply for ERDF funding – This part will look at the practical process of applying for ERDF funding and will provide an overview of the principles to consider in making an ERDF application.

Please note that although this event will briefly cover how to improve project proposals for applications to the 2014-20 programme, full details of how to apply have not yet been announced. Once the details of how to apply are available One East Midlands Reach & Impact will run a specific workshop on how to apply for ERDF funding.
