Youth Report 2013

The National Council for Voluntary Youth Services has published the Youth Report 2013, which provides a snapshot of data and statistics about young people and youth services.

As well as showing that 868,128 of the 11,962,976 young people aged 10 to 24 in the UK live in the East Midlands, other interesting statistics for the UK from the Youth Report include:

  • 2,956,011 young people aged 11 to 24 are at risk of poverty or social exlusion;
  • 238,820 young people aged 16 to 25 identify themselves as gay, lesbian, bisexual or other;
  • 75,000 young people aged 16 to 24 experienced homelessness in the last year;
  • 40,193 looked after young people aged 10 to 24;
  • 40,117 young carers aged 10 to 24;
  • 7,509 young people aged 10 to 20 in custody;
  • 11,000 youth clubs in the UK with 370,000 participants aged 16 to 25 and 630,000 participants aged 8 to 16;
  • 31 percent of 16 to 24 year olds volunteered in the last 12 months for an average of 13.5 hours per month; and
  • 4,200 (0.5 percent) of trustees are aged 18 to 24 and 30 (0.003 percent) are under 18.

The Youth Report was launched in July 2013 with the aim of creating an intelligence for the youth sector, making existing data, statistics, research and practice examples more accessible to anyone who is planning activities, services and investment with young people.
