Local Economic Assessments |
Communities and Local government is inviting comments on the draft statutory guidance for economic assessments. This guidance and the corresponding legal instrument introduce a new duty for Local authorities. The new duty will require local authorities to conduct local economic assessments and will be applicable from 1 April 2010.
The consultation process began on 22 December and will end on 15 March. OEM invites Third Sector organisations and community organisations to respond to this consultation. Responses from organisations will be compiled and presented as a collective response form the sector.
We have summarised the guidance document which can be downloaded here. Please complete the consultation questionnaire and return to policy@one-em.org.uk.
It is essential to mention that we found the role of Third sector Organisations to be not explicit and well specified within the guidance. Section 7.11 gives guidance about working together. In this part of the guidance other sectors like business and social enterprise are mentioned. It is the view of OEM that the economy is not only about business. The third sector is a key partner in addressing the needs of communities and with a bearing to the sustainability of the economy. It is essential therefore that the role of the third sector is included explicitly within the guidance notes. Your comments to this and other provisions within the statutory guidance will be helpful in order for One East Midlands to present a comprehensive view from the sector.
