The Impact of the Economic Downturn

Over the last 6 months in particular the economic downturn has had a major impact on the lives of individuals, businesses, public bodies that held investments in affected financial institutions and the work of voluntary and community organisations. There has been an increasing focus within the Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) to consider the impact and potential implications which has found that there is a mixed impact with some organisations faring better than others.

This research was commissioned by the East Midlands Infrastructure Steering Group (EMISG) through the Leicestershire Ethnic Minority Partnership to consider the impact of the recession on a sample of VCS organisations in the East Midlands. It is expected that the recommendations will then inform further discussions about actions that the regions infrastructure bodies need to take. This work also sought to provide an overview of work that has happened across the country that looks at the response from the VCS to the recession.
