07 February 2012 - Practical masterclasses for Sustainable Support - Finding the form that fits |
In this masterclass participants will hear from two organisations that have successfully managed a substantial change in the way they generate income. Practical exercises will be used to explore both the technical and legal aspects of moving to a new income model, for example, creating a new legal structure or working in consortia, as well as the organisational or cultural changes that help to sustain a new approach.

The Mighty Creatives is a creative development charity agency with a track record of working across national and local networks to improve young people’s lives and the social and economic regeneration of communities, delivered through a range of strategic initiatives based on skills, lifelong learning, leadership, and enterprise. Their skills development programme will support the professional development of youth sector trainers across the voluntary and community sector, building on their existing networks, with a specific focus on cultural learning and youth work. They are offering two FREE professional development opportunities in partnership with NCVYS (National Council for Voluntary Youth Services).

08 February 2012 - Safer Future Communities Project Regional Briefing Events |
Safer Future Communities aims to prepare, empower, and modernise the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector around community safety at a local level to engage with their Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs). The project will provide the VCSE sector with support and advice to establish strong, vibrant, and coherent networks in each of the 41 PCC areas in England and Wales.

One East Midlands, in partnership with the Big Lottery Fund (BIG), invites Infrastructure organisations toa free event to discuss infrastructure working and to take part in BIG’s Building Capabilities consultation. The Empowering the voluntary sector project has been delivering training to third sector organisations to challenge unjust decision making processes since September 2006. This project now brings together Compact Advocacy, NAVCA and the Public Law Project to deliver training together with Compact and legal advice with the aim of strengthening the relationship between voluntary and community organisations and public bodies and significantly increases opportunities to influence decisions made by public bodies.

The session will be facilitated by a charity marketing specialists Matter&Co and with personal experience from Stephanie Sturrock, who, as CEO of Seachange, oversaw a successful rebranding of the organisation which has helped bring about a renaissance in the coastal towns of Scarborough and Whitby.

One of the first actions of the newly formed Rural Network East Midlands, part of Defra’s National Rural and Farming Network will be to host a special conference event. The conference will explore how government policy provides opportunities and challenges for rural communities and how Rural Network East Midlands intends to support future rural growth.

28 March 2012 - Community Rights Made Real Workshop - Birmingham |
Urban Forum and NAVCA are running a free workshop, in partnership with Birmingham Voluntary Service Council and NCVYS, to prepare for the practicalities, opportunities and challenges of the rights within the Localism Act. We want to support inclusion and equality in how the new rights are taken up; focussing in particular on the needs of communities who currently lack power.
